Happy Mother's Day Everybody!
This goes out to all the Mommys, Mamas, Moms, and Mas out there.
If you are one of those women who have been woken up in the middle of the night by a child just to hear, "Mama, I'm sick" - and to have the evidence show up in the bed with you - You are a Mother. If you were able to take said child, clean him up, give him the required nursing, and clean up your own bed - without getting sick yourself - you are a Mommy.
If you are one of those women who made a trip to the store either across town or clear into the big city because your child needed an elusive item for her school project - You are a mother. If you did this after hunting in EVERY store imaginable in a 30 mile radius before hearing from your daughter that you can only get at the specialty shop - You are a Mom.
If you are one of those women who wakes up to find out that their little one decided to feed himself that morning and all the evidence is all over the kitchen - along with a trail to the culprit himself - You are a Mother. If you were able to congratulate him on his independence without laughing out loud or losing your sanity - You are a Mama
If you are one of those women who has gone to bed at night with a throbbing headache after a day of breaking up fights, burning dinners, and screaming children - You are a Mother. If you are ready and willing to wake up the next day and do it all over again - Well, you're Crazy! But, that is what makes you Ma.
I guess I'm just trying to say that anyone can be a Mother. I think that is what some teenagers are trying to say when they start saying, "Mother...." Yes, it is to separate themselves and loosen that apron string a bit, but it is also a way of saying,"You're just the women that gave birth to me..." Silly Huh?! They are trying desperately to forget all that we can't. That time we changed them after they played in mud. That time we wiped out their mouth after they ate a bug. And the time they came to us with their heart broken from some thoughtless word or deed from their current crush. We, hopefully, realize that deep down they still think of us as Mama, Mommy, and Mom. Because we have earned those names. They are stamped on our hearts and tattooed on our souls. We cannot imagine a world without them in it or our lives before they existed.
We are Mama's - Watch us band aid!
We are Mommy's - Watch us "love" bugs!
We are Mom's - Watch us referee!
We are Ma's - Watch us love!
